Perched at 2,045 metres on the summit of the Rochers-de-Naye, reached from Montreux by the cog railway, this alpine botanical garden was created in 1896 and dedicated to the memory of the Vaud poet and naturalist Eugène Rambert (1830-1886), hence its name of “Rambertia”. The Geneva botanist Henry Correvon was its first president. It now gathers close to a thousand species of mountain plants.

A garden born in 1896
At the top of the Rochers-de-Naye, 2,045 metres above Lake Geneva, La Rambertia is one of the oldest alpine botanical gardens in Switzerland. Founded in 1896, it bears the name of the poet and naturalist Eugène Rambert and was placed under the presidency of the Geneva botanist Henry Correvon.
The link with the Ribaupierre musicians
Among the garden’s creators was Émile Jean Cécile de Ribaupierre, a horticulturist in Clarens and the father of a family that did a great deal for the musical life of the Riviera. The violinist André de Ribaupierre and his brother Emile, founder of the Orchestre de Ribaupierre, were among his children: this is what ties this mountain garden to the musical history of Montreux.
